’33 Ford: Improving drivability and fuel economy

A red 33 Ford 3 window coupe (all steel) sits in front of Portland Speed Industries.  This classic car underwent a prior restoration and sat in a museum for a few years.  The car is at PSI because the owner wants to make this car an enjoyable daily driver.   The owner  had us go over the car and give him any recommendations to improve performance, reliability, and basically make the car more enjoyable to drive.

One of PSI’s recommendations was to convert the carb system to an Electronic Fuel Injection system.  The reasons for going EFI are fuel economy, tunability, drivability, and performance.  The improved fuel economy of EFI over carburetors is a strong benefit with the current price of gas.  Being able to electronically control the fuel system will help a lot with tunability.  This power over the fuel system will improve drivability and performance.  The conversion will be completed with an Edelbrock Pro-Flo 2 EFI.

To further improve the drivability of this 33 Ford, a bolt on overdrive system will be mounted to the TH400 3-speed automatic transmission.  This overdrive system will improve the efficiency of the transmission and make it more like a modern transmission.  The increased efficiency will improve the drivability and fuel economy.
